Apple Valley High School is a STEM high school recognized in US News and World Report as being ranked 36th in the state overall against 774 high schools. While the academic focus is on science, technology, engineering and mathematics it is also well known for it’s athletics graduating Tyus Jones in 2014 who went on to join the NBA as a professional basketball player for the Minnesota Timberwolves as well as Mark Hall who has now qualified for the Olympic trials in wrestling and drove Apple Valley High School to a national ranking of 14th in the country. Eastview High School
Eastview High School is a relatively new addition to Apple Valley located on the east side of Apple Valley and drawing students from Apple Valley, Eagan and Rosemount. Ranked 9th in the state by US News and World Report against 774 other high schools is an amazing feat. Eastview is a STEM school with additional focus on science, technology, engineering and mathematics and also ranked in the top 3% of most challenging high schools in The Washington Post America’s Most Challenging High Schools rankings.
School of Environmental Studies
School of Environmental Studies is a magnet school located on the grounds of the Minnesota Zoo offering students a unique learning environment and opportunities to study with professionals in their work settings. It is available to high school juniors and seniors and offers a slightly different curriculum from traditional high schools offering field studies and intensive study themes.

History and Demographics
From it’s humble beginnings as part of Union Township in 1858 to becoming an statutory city in 1974 Apple Valley was sparsely populated until the 1960’s. In 1960 Apple Valley only had a population of 585 people. During the 1960’s residential neighborhoods begin to be developed and by 1980 the population had exploded to just over 20,000 people. The city had 50,487 people as of July, 1 2014. While there is still building taking place in Apple Valley there are not very many places within the city limits for new neighborhoods to go up.
